TROUBLESHOOTING THE VENTILATOR

The image above shows a patient on mechanical ventilation and is
having problems receiving adequate oxygenation. Disconnection of
the tubing, water in the tubing or a cuff leak of the endotracheal tube
 may all impede adequate oxygenation.

What is an AMBU bag?

A - Artificial
M - Manual
B - Breathing
U - Unit

An AMBU bag is a piece of medical equipment that is used to help
provide oxygen during an emergency like CPR. It is also used to provide
supplemental oxygen when a patient is being transported from one area
to another (like a trauma scene). It is connected to an oxygen mask on
one end and to an oxygen tube that supplies oxygen on the other end.
Oxygen is then delivered to the patient.

ScenarioA patient was involved in a car accident.
Trauma to the chest area, has resulted in a pneumothorax.

Scenario: Above , there are two nurses who are in the process
of transporting
a patient , who is having difficulty breathing.
The nurse on the right, is using an AMBU bag to administer
oxygen. Neither of the two nurses have observed that the oxygen
 tubing is disconnected. The
 oxygen saturation is not improving.
