What is an ileus?  An ileus may develop in the postoperative patient,  following abdominal surgery. It may also occur from the use of narcotics. The warning signs include: abdominal pain, distention and absent bowel sounds.

Cirrhosis of the liver The other name for this condition is chronic liver failure. Signs of liver failure  The liver becomes enlarged in cirrhosis. The abdomen  becomes distended ( ascites) and spider veins cover the abdomen.  Where are the kidneys located?  The kidneys are located in the abdominal cavity. What is the purpose of the kidneys ? The kidneys filter waste from the body and is excreted as urine. What is Hemodialysis? Hemodialysis is a form of treatment used for patients who cannot get rid of their own waste ( urine) the normal way. This may be  done for a long or short period of time.
