Coronary Artery Bypass Graft ( CABG ) This procedure is pronounced cabbage, but is not a virtual cabbage. A CABG is usually done to improve the heart’s circulation in the patient with coronary artery disease. An artery or vein is taken from another part of the body and used to reroute blood to the heart. This procedure bypasses the blocked vessel. The nurse will also follow MD orders regarding: - monitoring vital signs and oxygen saturation, - administer pain medication, replace IV fluids, - check dressings at surgical sites for bleeding - check drainage tubes and carry out any other instructions.
