Liver failure may be acute or chronic.
Causes include : ingestion of certain drugs, alcohol
abuse or other chemicals.

Signs of liver failure 
The liver becomes enlarged in cirrhosis. The abdomen 
becomes distended ( ascites) and spider veins cover the
abdomen. Liver failure may progress over a few days or
over a long period of time.
