TREATMENT OF SCHIZOPHRENIA

Treatment of Schizophrenia Sc hizophrenia may be treated in a number of different ways. ACT-Active Community Therapy is a form of treatment which involves a team of individuals who are able to meet with the patient in a place that is not related to a hospital or doctor's office. (see image) ECT - Electroconvulsive Conculsive Therapy is also a form of treatment used to treat psychiatric disorders such as depression bipolar disorder, catatonia and schizophrenia.  Patients are put under anesthesia and electric shocks are given to induce a brief brain seizure.(See image). Zyprexa, Abilify and Risperdal are some of the drugs used to treat this condition. Chest pain may be brought on by stress. It may also  be a sign  of a cardiac event. Scenario : Tom is having a panic attack in the elevator. He is extremely anxious and feels like he cannot breathe and wants to run away. What is Claustrophobia? Claustrophobia may be defined as an abnormal fear of being in a small or enclosed space. Typically a person may have been trapped in a box or a closet at some point in life. Treatment : Drugs like Beta Blockers may be used to decrease heart rate. Serotonin inhibitors such as Paxil may also be used. Hypotherapy is also another form of treatment used to improve this condition. Scenario: Above is Mr.R who works in a fast food joint. He loves to drink sodas. He is now beginning to experience the early signs of diabetes. He will learn from his doctor, he has diabetes. Scenario :Rick has a history of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. His blood glucose is high and he has Insulin ordered twice a day. It is midnight and Rick is requesting his wife bring snacks from home.  The Care Plan The diabetic patient requires teaching . This should also include the family . Patient and family teaching is reflected in the care plan. Complications of diabetes mellitus Diabetes mellitus, if not well managed, may be further  complicated by conditions such as cardiovascular disease , stroke , Retinopathy, Neuropathy and PVD.  What is PVD? Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) is caused by poor circulation. The diabetic patient is at risk for this condition. WHY THERAPY IS NECESSARY

 Rehabilitation is a necessity for patients who   have sustained  injuries of one kind of another. Depending on the nature of the injury and the diagnosis, therapy will be ordered by the doctor.  The duration of therapy will depend on the severity of damage and the patient's ability to make progress. Speech, physical occupational or therapy may be ordered. THE PLACENTA AND OTHER REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS

The placenta is an organ which develops during pregnancy . It supplies the fetus with nourishment and oxygen via the umbilical cord, which is attached to one side. The other side of the placenta is attached to the uterine wall. The placenta is a very vascular organ and contains an artery and a vein. The uterus, ovaries , fallopian tubes, cervix and vagina are all part of the reproductive system . The uterus is a hollow muscular organ which is located in the pelvis. Estrogen and Progesterone are two hormones produced by the ovaries initially, then  the placenta  in the latter part of  pregnancy.  They are first produced by the ovaries and later the placenta. Estrogen and Progesterone also keep the placenta healthy and enhance lactation.
