HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR THE CLINICAL NURSE

 Dear nurses, Hope you had a good July 4th. I have tried to put together some helpful information for the clinical nurse, in the image above.    They include the following: - When administering medications ;   Did you remember to check for a history   of allergies to medications on your patient? - Did you document the medications you gave? - The trash can is full and overflowing.    Did you notify Housekeeping? - The needle disposal is full.    Did you notify the right department to have it changed? -  Needles should never be recapped.    There is the danger of being stuck! Scenario: The patient above, was in respiratory distress and placed  on mechanical ventilation. It is difficult for the patient on a ventilator to describe pain. Knowing how to assess is very important. HELPFUL INFORMATION ABOUT THE KIDNEYS

The kidneys are always at work. The kidneys have a lot of work to do filtering out waste products , even when the body is at rest. Scenario : Mrs. S is a 38 year old female who has just been diagnosed with renal failure. The doctor discusses hemodialysis to  improve the situation . What are the kidneys? The kidneys  are two bean-shaped organs located in the  abdominal cavity on either side of the spine. They work to filter out waste products from the blood. ADDRESSING THE PATIENT IN RESPIRATORY DISTRESS

Scenario : John was admitted to the ICU with difficulty breathing .He was intubated and placed on mechanical ventilation. Potential problems  of the patient on mechanical ventilation will include : -  anxiety   related to mechanical ventilation, the  doctor orders medication to reduce anxiety and  make breathing easier. - impaired gas exchange, checking breath sounds, suctioning secretions to maintain a patent airway. Troubleshooting alarms will also be necessary . - Patient and family education will help to decrease anxiety. Patient restraints may be necessary to prevent self extubation. Dear nurses, Welcome to a new year!  Whether at home or where food is served, basic hygiene is a necessity. It prevents the spread of infection. Like it or not, when basic hygiene standards are overlooked, the potential for infection becomes real. Hand washing is simple and is considered to be an easy tool in preventing the spread of infection. Learn more by reading the image above.  Preventing the spread of  infection  should be a priority for every healthcare worker.  In-service education in a healthcare facility, is done on a regular basis, to provide the staff  with tips to prevent infection.  Maintaining a  safe  work environment is crucial.
