ASSESSMENT OF THE PATIENT ON MECHANICAL VENTILATION - QUIZ QUESTIONS

Scenario: The patient above, was in respiratory distress
and placed  on mechanical ventilation. It is difficult
for the patient on a ventilator to describe pain. Knowing
how to assess is very important.

Warning signs:

Warning signs of pain on mechanical ventilation include:
- agitation, tachycardia,
- elevated blood pressure,
- increased  respirations 
*There is also a need for suctioning, in order to
maintain a patent airway.
- Alarms on the ventilator are warning signs of something 
needing attention

What is an AMBU Bag?
A - Artificial
M - Manual
B - Breathing
U - Unit

An AMBU bag is a piece of medical equipment that is
used to help provide oxygen during an emergency like CPR.
It is also used to provide supplemental oxygen when a
patient is being transported from one area to another
(such as a trauma scene). 

It is connected to an oxygen mask on one end and to
an oxygen tube that supplies oxygen on the other end.
Oxygen is ten delivered to the patient.

Myocardial infarction A heart attack is the layman's term for a (MI) myocardial infarction.      It is caused by  a lack of blood supply to the heart muscle.
