Cirrhosis of the liver Liver failure may be acute or chronic. Causes include : ingestion of certain drugs, alcohol abuse or other chemicals. Signs of liver failure  The liver becomes enlarged in cirrhosis. The abdomen  becomes distended ( ascites) and spider veins cover the abdomen. The kidneys The kidneys are two bean shaped organs, located in the abdominal cavity . They filter waste from the body and is excreted as urine. The  hypothalamus  produces ADH ( antidiuretic hormone ).It is stored in the posterior pituitary gland. ADH plays a  great role  in the  amount of urine which is excreted by the  kidneys.   Hemodialysis is a form of treatment used for patients who cannot get rid of their own waste ( urine) the normal way.
